The Potato Meditation

I love feeling the earth underneath my feet & feeling rooted to the all-loving, all-powerful, supportive energy that pervades the Universe.

Sometimes we forget how supported we really are; we feel as if we don’t have “enough.” Enough money. Enough time. Enough energy. Enough emotional connection. Enough guidance. Enough love. Enough ability. But in actuality, the truth remains:

God is always supporting us.

You live in an infinitely abundant, giving, loving cosmos that has been created to support you.

God is always supporting you.

If everything you had was stripped away and you were left with no money, no job, no friends or family, no resources, nothing… you would still be grounded in something greater than all those transient things. You would still have God’s unwavering support.

And you would re-build, because you are strong.

You would create a new world filled with ever more magic than the world you left behind. You have that power, and the Universe supports you. Remember that when you’re feeling insecure.

I practice the following meditation when I need to remind myself how “rooted” and stable I am, regardless of who is/isn’t in my life, how much is/isn’t in my bank account, and how clear the future is/isn’t appearing to me.

The Potato Meditation

Bake a Sweet Potato

Or fry it up with some delicious oil & spice. Let every aspect of preparation be a form of meditation in itself. Don’t let your mind wander. Don’t multi-task. Love that potato as you’re cooking it! Feel its earthly texture in your hand. Admire its reddish skin and vibrant orange insides (its color is similar to your root and sacral chakras.) Thank the potato for the nourishment it is about to provide for you. It is here to support you!

Sit in Meditation before you Eat

After you’ve prepared your dish, or while you’re waiting for the potato to bake, sit comfortably and say the following to yourself: “I am rooted. I have everything I need. I create my own abundance. I am fully supported.” You may wish to repeat the mantra several times. Feel the truth of the words as you are saying them. This is the most important part of the meditation, so enjoy infusing yourself with this healing mantra.

Eat in Peace

Now is time to enjoy the delicious potato that the earth has offered up for you… and you get to do so while knowing that everything in this Universe is unfolding in your favor. You are exactly where you need to be. You are loved. You are supported. You are strong.

Cinnamon, Turmeric, and Sea Salt (also Cardamom) are grounding spices: add them to your shakes–or better yet–make a warm, grounding Ayurvedic soup or stew. In general, warm foods feel more supportive to us than cold foods. Think about Mom’s healing chicken soup…

Even so, I still love my cold smoothie in the morning! I mix beets inside (and a Reishi mushroom extract) because they are quite grounding. Walnuts are as well.
